Anyone know where I can find a sample RDL that is styled like an invoice
form?
Header - contains Sold To/Ship To
Detail - Invoice Line Items
Footer - contains invoice totals

Reporting Services installs sample reports. There is one particular report
you could probably use as template.
The report is called Sales Order Detail report. It resembles an invoice. You
should be able to access this report in http://<server>/ReportServer in the
SampleReports folder. You can access the design of this report in Visual
Studio .Net.

You can put the Bill To and Ship To information in the Table Header and have
it repeat.

starting to understand Reporting Services.
Tip: You can select multiple cells and merge them. That is a huge help.

Invoice form layout

Is there some way to simulate a fixed form layout for an invoice? I want to
have a fixed set of columns with dividing lines and totals boxes at the
bottom, regardless of how many actual rows of data are displayed. I've
tried 2 approaches (using PDF rendering only):
1. overlay a table with a set of manually drawn lines. This sort of works
for a single page, but if a 2nd page is required by the data it goes
completely haywire.
2. Use a table with conditional formatting. This is my current solution, BUT
a) the totals are always immediately after the last row, instead of at the
page bottom,
b) when the data requires just a little more than a single page the whole
table is moved to start on the 2nd page (where it fits in total due to less
header space) instead of starting on page 1 and continuing on page2 (hope
that makes sense).
Is there any published advice on designing this sort of page layout, or is
RS not really suited to the task?

My feeling is the RS cannot really do this sort of thing - it's really meant
for screen-based reporting.

|||Are you on workstation or professional? Sometimes these versions are
limited by the number of simultaneous share accesses.
Run a net stop server and net start server to see if this fixes the
problem.

|||It still didn't work and I can access the directories when I type them in to
the explorer windows. I believe when I tried running the stored procedure in
query analyzer and it was sucessful. But when I run it from VB it does not
work. All other sp calls are working.

imagine you retyped it all, so did you later change it and remove the '\C'?
Assuming you have tried \\BUSHWACKER\temp ... I don't have .NET installed on
my virtual PC, but perhaps there is a way you could narrow down the issue.
Create a wrapper stored procedure that calls sp_adddistpublisher and check
it works in QA with no values for the parameters ie set up defaults to each
parameter in the wrapper procedure. Call this proicedure from .NET as you
have done without parameters and check this works. Then add just the wrapper
version of @.working_directory to the parameters collection and send it
through to call the real sp_adddistpublisher. At some stage in the above
process, it should become clearer what the issue is.

failure. Sorry for the confusion. I used \\BUSHWACKER\temp
in the code I was testing on before I posted to the newsgroup.
I will try what you have mentioned below. Its a very good idea. I assume
you want to see if its related to permissions or the sp call from vb thats
causing the error. Am I correct?

Invalid Report Source

I developed a project with a form one main report and three subreports.

I was able to run this report well in this project.

But if i include it in my main project it throws an error "Invalid Report Source" and my viewer is blank but the "Main Report" tab is there present.

I use dataset as the datasource for my crystal report.
If i use the dataset to fill my datagrid it is giving the value.

So with the situation i understand that the dataset is getting filled and the report is also geting the data. The error comes in the line

RptViewer.ReportSource = Rpt_Doc. '(Report Document Object)

One main thing is i have not used any error handler but the code still continue to work properly without being crashed.

If i give 'Try catch' error handler also i the same error is only prompted.

The main project was first developed in vs.net 2000 and the project was upgraded to 2003.

Will this be the reason for the report being giving the errorI got the solution through one of my friend.

the solution is

The error message appears because the incorrect versions of the Crystal DLL files are referenced.

To correct this behavior reference the correct version of Crystal DLL files.

Adding the Correct References
----------

1. Open the VS .NET project.

2. In the 'Solution Explorer' window, right-click the 'References' folder and choose the 'Add Reference' command. The 'Add Reference' window appears.

3. Verify the References for all Crystal DLLs are version 9.1.5000. If they are not version 9.1.5000, select the 9.1.5000 version DLLs and click the 'Select' button.

4. Click the 'OK' button.

5. Save and run your application.

If running the application you find the DLLs revert to the version observed prior to your updates, complete the following steps:

Reverting DLLs Back to Version 9.1.5000
------------

1. Right-click the project name in the solution explorer and select the 'Properties' command. The 'Properties' window appears.

2. Under the 'Common Properties' folder, select 'References Path'. The 'Reference Path' window appears.

3. Delete all entries in this window and click 'OK'.

4. Repeat steps 2 through 4 of the 'Steps to Add the Correct References Section'.

Upon completing the listed steps, the application runs and reflects the correct References.

Invalid character value for cast specification error

I'm using Access 2K via ODBC to replicated SQL Server 2K. In some tables (not all) when I try to add a record either with a form or directly in the datasheet I get this error message and all form controls/table cells display '#Name?'. The record is added
and displays correctly if I close and reopen the form/table. I can add records with no problem in Enterprise Manager.
Any help gratefully received.
